Öffentlicher Vortrag von Dr. Meidhbhín Ní Úrdail (University College Dublin):
“Ireland - A Speckled Land, a Speckled People”
What we may term an ‘in-between linguistic space’ is preoccupying a number of contemporary writers and commentators in the Ireland of today. Hugo Hamilton’s The Speckled People will spring to mind, of course, but not so obvious, perhaps, is the issue of language for those writing in Irish itself. Why, for example, write in a language not spoken on a daily basis by the majority of the population? Does it matter? Who will read the material anyway? Can the Irish language occupy a dynamic creative space? These and other socio-cultural questions will be addressed during the course of this lecture.
Achtung: Beginn 18:00Uhr s.t.!
